Northlands Rescue Mission serves the poor and homeless in the Northlands

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

Testimonial from a Mission Volunteer:

I just wanted to start by saying thank you very much for getting the opportunity to be a part of  the mission.  This opportunity has allowed me to become better person, I have met and learned a lot from each person that has come and sat in my chair.  No matter where you are or where you come from you can have your life striped from you and it is nice to know that there is a place to go and people to help you get back on your feet.  I greatly appreciate being a small part of that piece that could make a person feel better about themselves and let them know that people really do care.  I look forward to continue working with you all.

Thank you again,

Terri Harpestad - The Hairdresser Lady

Some highlights of the past year of 2006 from UND Law Students:

  • Filed appeals for a couple of residents for Social Security Disability Benefits
  • Wrote multiple letters to Creditors for residents asserting the Fair Debt Collection Act privacy rights
  • Did research for many residents that included panhandling laws, copyright laws, probate laws, debtor creditor issues, child paternity laws.

COMMUNITY RESPONSE

Earlier this year, we asked members of the Grand Forks-East Grand Forks community a few questions concerning The Mission and this was their response:

What does The Mission mean to me?

It is a place that will take care of the "less fortunate" and do it with dignity and Christian purpose.  - Bill Lee, President of Community Bank of the Red River Valley

The Mission demonstrates that, as a community, Grand Forks has heart. - Mayor Michael Brown

What does The Mission mean to the community?

The Mission improves the quality of life in our community by directly providing services, resources, and direction when people need it most. - Mayor Michael Brown

It satisfies the community's responsibility for helping the people going through difficult times.  The community need to support such an effort.  - Bill Lee, President of Community Bank of the Red River Valley
